Shutters on Sliding Glass Doors

The beauty of plantation shutters, the functionality of a door.

A lot of homes have sliding glass doors. And not all of them are the prettiest doors you've ever seen.
We get asked frequently what kind of window coverings could be be used to dress up the sliders. Maybe it's a privacy issue, maybe it's a need for better light control- but essentially a sliding glass door is just a giant window in your wall- and we're experts at handling that.

Here's a great example of a way we used our real wood plantation shutters to turn an ugly old sliding glass door into an elegant looking window in this living room. The shutters provide total privacy when closed and absolute light control with easy opening and closing of the louvers. And most importantly, you can still use the door whenever you want to. Just open the shutter panel, slide open the door, and step right out. Austin Window Fashions is one of the few places that can make shutter panels wide enough to use as doors. It's because of the premium materials and maufacturing methods that go into our shutters that they are strong enough and can be made in width's over 36". That's not something any of our competitors can do.

So check out how these lovely shutters transformed the look of the living room and still made this sliding glass door useable, but now with total privacy and light control.
